About the AUSNZ WELI program

The program consists of the establishment and co-ordination of advisor/protégé dyads of highly successful anaesthetists (or pain specialists or leaders in other fields) in leadership positions (advisors) being paired specifically with protege women with common interests and goals. The dyads are supported with professional training in coaching and mentorship, and are a key component of AUSNZ WELI setting it apart from other initiatives.

The advisor leaders will have a history of mentoring and personal career success, and they will work more closely to assist protégés in their specific area of interest. We call these leaders WELI “advisors”, and they use aspects of both advising and mentoring when working with their WELI protégés. Advisors and protégés will participate in skills workshops led by experts in the fields of negotiation, communication, networking and career development and will be provided other outside resources dedicated to achieving success in academic medicine.

Tailored curriculum consisting of workshops, (e.g. communication, goal setting and career planning, identifying and dealing with imposter syndrome)

Networking opportunites, aimed at connecting anaesthetists with skills or special interests.

Ongoing assessment/research into the utility of the program and evolution according to evidence gathered on what it takes for women to succeed professionally.
